  • Description: Threads That Bind of Maxwell, Ontario hosted a 12 month version of Block of the Month called $10 Club. Thimbles and Things of Orillia (now Severn), Ontario was kind enough to share the concept and the pattern. Each participant paid $10 to join and as long as we had our block done each month, attended our chosen time slot (there were 3 groups) and were on time, we received the next block at no charge. If any of the criteria was missed, it cost $10 to continue. At the monthly meeting, we were given our instructions and a pack of fabric for part of the block and to socialize. Each group created a story - with a different person contributing a chapter. At the end, there are now 3 stories - apparently all very different. Lois (owner of TTB) was her usual generous self with giveaways and special discounts Each month, we saw each other's blocks so had an inkling of themes that people had adopted. On August 18th, all 3 groups met for the big reveal. There were close to 40 and as is always the case with these reveals each one was unique! Creativity was quite evident. I wasn't pleased with my blocks (too scrappy) so I didn't bother with sashing and borders but, using a sheet from my mother's trousseau (1946!) for the backing and no batting, I finished it as a picnic blanket.
